Unprepared Steel
Unprepared Steel is any metal that is over at certain yards and is 1/4 inch thick. The major reason you were paid less for unprepared steel is that the yard used equipment, which cost them more in payroll, fuel, cutting torches/gas, and time missed preparing other metals for shipment. Any steel that is thicker than 1/8 inch is considered unprepared steel. This is supposed to include culverts, however owing to the chemical composition of the metal, two steel mills we sell to and most yards will no longer accept culverts as iron but as light iron. Steel unprepared has the same dimensions as steel unprepared but is not as thick.
