Heavy Steel

Heavy steel material that is three inches thick or larger is considered a heavy steel plate. The heavy plate is made up of several grades manufactured both in the United States and elsewhere. These grades are utilized in a variety of industries, including mining, energy, and automobiles.

Common Heavy Steel Plate Grades – Heavy steel While a wide range of steel plate grades are available in heavy thicknesses, those employed in structural or building applications are the most usually sought. Each of these grades contains alloys that improve the strength and hardness attributes desired in structural and building applications, as shown in the charts below. Because of these qualities, the aforementioned grades are suited for high-strength applications of any thickness. When the thickness of these grades exceeds a certain threshold, they become suited for a narrower – but crucial – set of applications, such as bridge-building and energy infrastructure.

Less Common Heavy Steel Plate Grades – IN Oryx Exim Heavy steel grades, albeit less common than the grades listed above, can be available in higher thicknesses. These grades can be more difficult to locate, although they are frequently offered by vendors who have a substantial inventory of plate items.
